歌川芳艶（1822〜1866年）による1874年（明治7年）の作品「近世義勇伝 日下部三郎右衛門」。彦根藩に仕えた実在の武士・日下部三郎右衛門を主人公とした義勇伝シリーズの一作。国芳門下の芳艶らしい迫力ある描写が特徴。本作には歌文も記されており、武士の忠義と勇気を称えた内容となっています。

“Kinsei Giyūden: Kusakabe Saburōemon” (Records of Modern Heroism: Kusakabe Saburōemon, 1874) by Utagawa Yoshitsuya (1822–1866). From a series depicting real-life heroes and loyal samurai, this print portrays Kusakabe Saburōemon, a sword master in service to the Hikone domain, renowned for his scholarship, martial prowess, and unwavering loyalty to his lord. A rare combination of visual drama and historical documentation.
